The End of the Year is Nigh

Wouldn't it be great if chassidishe kids, totally isolated from society, would learn about the wider world? Wouldn't it be great if they would learn to be able to learn from people outside of their community?

Wouldn't it be great if secular Jews could appreciate that Judaism is about much more than just synagogue and holidays?

Wouldn't it be great to have a way to bring the most arcane parts of Torah to life?

There's a place that does all of this, and more. It's the Biblical Museum of Natural History. We've hosted nearly 50,000 visitors from across the spectrum of society, and we are poised to move into a much larger facility and scale up our operations dramatically!

As 2018 draws to a close, if you still have some charity donations to disperse, please consider the Torah and Nature Foundation! That's our 501(c)(3) which operates the Biblical Museum of Natural History. Details of how to donate via credit card, check or Paypal can be found at this link. For larger gifts, exhibit dedications in our new building are available. Thank you, and well done, for participating in our mission!

  1. The End of the Year is Nigh

The words "of the year" should be in parentheses, and there should be an exclamation point at the end.

    Just sayin'

  2. Shalo,I'm pretty knew on this blog and therefore I would like to know what is your view and the view of rationalists about the doctrine so many Jews believe in nowadays (which I thinks come from the Ari) that a part of Hashem is present in the soul of every single Jew. Is this doctrine accepted by all,or are there Jews who reject it and believe Hashem is NOT present within our souls? Thanks.

    1. A Rambam-like view would be that human intellect is the thing in us that most closely resembles God, so any statement me referring to divinity in man (like Ztelem Elokim) would be referring to that.

  3. I honestly do not know if you try to write in a patronizing and generally distasteful way, or its a natural gift.

This may be the most off-putting appeal I have ever seen.

  4. And here I was looking forward to a discourse on the rationalist viewpoint on when to end the year, a comparison of secular vs religious, lunar vs solar, chukos hagoyim vs the sugya in Rosh Hashana. I guess that will have to wait for a future post.

Meanwhile kol hakavod on the growth of your museum. I look forward to visiting the new center soon!

    1. If you donate, he’ll probably have to spend less time on fundraising and can spend more on writing :).

  5. You deserve the same criticism you save for the chareidim.
Instead of shnorring to support your business, how about taking out a business loan? Maybe find some investors?
Shnorring is shnorring, even if it's in a different style. The same goes for the Israeli Government with their shnorring from the US Jewish Federations and private people to donate tanks and whatnot.
Seems like you found a nice workaround by calling it a "Foundation". We know all about it, oldest trick in the book. Just hope the IRS doesn't audit you.

    1. It's not a business - it's something that benefits the general public. Which is not the case with kollel.

    2. The following is honestly not meant to be snarky: Does that mean you support kollelim I’m which the mission is to train Rabbonim who will spread Torah. (Example Chofetz Chaim)
