If you have 17 minutes of your life to waste, there is an awesome
new video shiur to watch. Set to thundering music and eye-popping visuals, it features Rabbis Yosef Mizrachi and Yaron
Reuven explaining why the great sufferings of our era, including the tragic
deaths of innocent children, are the fault of the entire Jewish nation.
Their sin? Not fighting zealously enough against fourteen wicked
infidels, including Lord Rabbi Sacks, Chief Rabbi of Britain Ephraim
Mirvis, my friends Rabbi Daniel Korobkin of Toronto and Rabbi Efrem Goldberg
of Boca Raton, and yours truly! Packed with Oscar-worthy special
effects, the video also features guest appearances from Thor and some
Kryptonian spaceships! You can watch it on YouTube at this link: https://youtu.be/1KiL6d8aes4
(The video is tremendously entertaining; but the comments which appear on it, from their followers, are truly tragic.)
Exploring the legacy of the rationalist Rishonim (medieval Torah scholars), and various other notes, by Rabbi Dr. Natan Slifkin, director of The Biblical Museum of Natural History in Beit Shemesh. The views expressed here are those of the author, not the institution.

It's telling that the very first still is of the inquisition...
ReplyDeleteNo one ever expects the Spanish Inquisition...
DeleteShallow as it may be, the video has one important chiddush - aliens indeed exist and will participate in the punishment of mankind at the end of days.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many copyright infringements there are in that video.
ReplyDeleteThe irrelevant flashy graphics somehow fit so well with the hyperbolic fundamentalism. Can't exactly put a finger on it.
ReplyDeleteThey need to cut Thor next time from a video about idolatry.
DeleteWow, Rabbi Slifkin, you really rub shoulders with some pretty important people.
ReplyDeleteThat list includes some of the most significant thinkers in the Jewish World right now. Not sure how Santa Claus made the list, but you can be very proud to be included.
The "eye-popping visuals" and "thundering music" are a big distraction. Not the best way to get the message across.
ReplyDelete"לא ברעש ה'"
http://www.ravaviner.com/2009/12/erev-rav-today.html
ReplyDeleteRav Aviner:"In his book "Heichal Yitzchak", Ha-Rav Yitzchak Isaac of Komarna says that whenever the Rabbis used the term "Erev Rav" it is not in order to say to others: "You are part of the 'Erev Rav'!" but in order for each of us to search within ourselves to see if we have a taint of the "Erev Rav." This means that a person can have traces of the "Erev Rav" within him, which is referred to by the mystics as "Resurrected Sparks." The Vilna Gaon wrote in Even Shelemah (chap. 11) that one who is involved with communal disputes or shames Torah scholars possesses traces of the "Erev Rav." There is no obligation to follow every Torah scholar, and it is impossible to do so, but it is forbidden to shame a Torah scholar, even if you do not accept his opinion. One must respect every Torah scholar. One who has the qualities of communal disputes and shaming Torah scholar must be wary about his "Erev Rav"-ness."
I have not merited to delve into סתרי תורה, but I've seen the following five categories of Erev Rav cited in the name of the Zohar:
בעלי מחלוקת ולשון הרע
בעלי תאוה
צבועים שאין תוכם כברם
רודפים אחר כבוד לעשות להם שם
רודפים אחר ממון
Yeah. That's a heavy laundry list for self-reflection.
You can save yourself some time and trouble and just not bother with made up gobbledegook.
DeleteGoggledegook? If we can rid ourselves of any of those five nasty traits we'd be in a messianic age. Or if you're secular- a utopia.
DeleteYaron Reuven in his own words says he became frum after a nasty health ordeal that put the multi-millionaire wunderkind at death's door. It was not intellectual satisfaction, the warm fuzzy embrace of Carlebach, or inspiration from an ethical saintly rabbi. When תורה עבודה וגמילת חסדים fail, there's always a fire & brimstone apocalypse to prop you up. Not my cup of tea, but some enjoy their spiritual refreshment served scalding hot.
DeleteThis video was amusing, entertaining, and full of fear-mongering. Rabbi Yosef Mizrachi and Yaron Reuven are very good and scare tactics. Apparently, Rabbis Natan Slifkin, Shmuley Boteach, and Jonathan Sacks, as well as Santa Claus, for whatever reason, are canceled. Similarly, anyone who disagrees with a Leftist is either a racist or a nazi.
ReplyDeleteEveryone: start watching the video and then report it to YouTube for "Hateful or abusive content".
ReplyDeletewhy? are you in favor of censorship?
DeleteClassic left wing response, and the prime reason (along with hypocrisy) for its low standing. At least RNS doesn't try to suppress critics or criticism.
DeleteDF, often I agree with you. But this video is. just promoting plain hatred
DeleteI would like to protest the complete waste of time that has been inflicted upon me by this moronic video. Rabbi Dr. Slifkin, please give me my 17 minutes back.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe you that you watched the full 17 minutes. My head was spinning from 1 minute of watching, and the next 2 minutes still made me dizzy even though I was looking the other way
DeleteThat's the sad thing. We can't get them back.
Deleteאדם דואג על איבוד דמיו ואינו דואג על איבוד ימיו, דמיו אינם עוזרים, ימיו אינם חוזרים
רבי שלמה אבן גבירול
I, for one would be proud to be including on a list of so many Torah giants. There a so names I am unfamiliar with but if that fraud Mizrachi is attacking them I have to check them out. They are probably saying something worth hearing.
ReplyDeleteI don't even think Mizrachi is a real rabbi. He is a cult leader. And why did he add Lord Jonathan Sacks to the list? I think he's envy of Sacks and wants to be a want-to-be cult leader.
DeleteSuch great company !
ReplyDeleteDid you create the graphic with the pictures of 16 rabbis on it?
ReplyDeleteMust have more popcorn!
ReplyDeleteWhy do not all of the gang of the 14 or some of them sue these people in the courts of the US and the Lashon Hara law of Israel? After all, it is slander and you would most likely win.
ReplyDeleteI got bored after less than six minutes.
ReplyDeleteI saw the Freemason symbol for a moment. I guess Rabbi Yisrael Brodie zt"l should also be on the list.
The visuals are stunning. Much time was spent stealing copyrighted material and special effects to be included. A technical and artistic tour de force. Relevance to narration is questionable but entertaining.
ReplyDeleteRabbi Slifkin, you are in good company. Be proud and keep up the good work.
Wow! I never knew there was so much mussar to be found in Hollywood blockbusters! Maybe Rabbbi Slifkin didn't watch enough of them, that woul explain why he is such a heinous heretic!
ReplyDeleteIt's not a joke. He's basically calling for the death penalty on these rabbis.
ReplyDeleteVery very dangerous.
This lunatic should be arrested before someone gets hurt by one of his followers.
Gotta admit that he has a fascinating life story. See link for video where he tells his story.
ReplyDeletehttps://youtu.be/DJDAAva3CUE
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
ReplyDeleteIs he wrong, though, to include CR Sacks, a figure who has definitely courted criticism from the rank and file of the UK Orthodox Rabbinate (his own body included) for his dodgy books?
ReplyDeleteYes, he's wrong.
DeleteYes, he's wrong. Rav Sacks wrote *one problematic sentence* out of an entire career of outstanding rabbinic work. You don't become "the most evil rasha" for one mistake.
DeleteYes he's wrong. Because he's a fruitcake.
DeleteDear RNS please don't try to provide a reasoned argument to rebutt his argumemnts. Just point out that he's a nut.
What was the problematic sentence? What was it about?
DeleteI wouldn't call them 'rabbinic works'.
Delete99% of his sources are not Jewish and not torah. There is no way that can be called rabbinic. He's a thinker, but not a Jewish one.
Not if in that one sentence he reveals an entire problematic worldview.
Delete"No one creed has a monopoly on spiritual truth."
R Natan, it was far more than one sentence. And I personally know of various orthodox rabbis who are far from charedi heretics who had long lists of problematic quotes.
DeleteBy downplaying this as "one sentence" you are either disingenuous or just ignorant of the facts.
I'm struggling to understand how that is problematic. Rabbi Kook said that no one has a monopoly on truth. Doses of truth exist in all religions. Of course only Judaism is the ultimate truth.
DeleteIndeed, Maimonides said to accept the truth no matter what its source. The only thing I take issue with Rabbi Sacks is his view that Friedrich Nietzsche was anti-Semitic when he was anything but. Nietzsche hated anti-semites so much so that he felt they should be deported.
"99% of his sources are not Jewish and not torah."
You never met Rabbi Sacks, have you? I wrote to him via email. He's very nice and teaches authentic Torah.
Yehudah,
DeleteMy what narrow definitions you have of 'jewish', 'rabbinic', and 'torah'.
Rabbi Sacks has updated: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/chief-rabbi-recants-after-heresy-claim-178257.html
Delete"I'm struggling to understand how that is problematic. Rabbi Kook said that no one has a monopoly on truth. Doses of truth exist in all religions. Of course only Judaism is the ultimate truth."
DeleteThis is not what he was saying. Marc Shapiro explains in his On Books and Bans: "In other words, everyone grants that
if Christianity teaches that murder is wrong, then this is a
truth, but it is not a religious truth particular to this faith, and it is not what Sacks has in mind."
@YPRS Good point. What do you suggest R. Sacks had in mind?
DeleteSorry for the delay. What he means is that all religions are EQUALLY true and are ALL divine and sacred as Marc Shapiro explains.
DeleteWhy do they have clips of a Xtian man bowing down to his yeshu idol and crossing himself in the video? Why so much satanic imagery as well?
ReplyDeleteIt would seem they are doing in this video what they accuse others of doing - glorifying images of xtianity and idolatry.
Who's kidding who, you love being on this list (which is why you publicize it.) Better to be attacked by your opponents than ignored.
ReplyDeleteHe’s the next L. Ron Hubbard.
ReplyDeleteI found a way to make it better. I watched it ox 2x speed during playback. I think I almost has a seizure, but I definitely threw up in my mouth a little.
ReplyDelete-LFD
I tried that also--didn't help. The pounding music drowned out what the people were saying.
DeleteThis Rabbi or denomination will claim those other Rabbis/denomination are wrong and visa versa each citing this or that text or authority to justify. No resolution is ever reached because none can be falsified or tested. There is no objective criteria to evaluate whose religion is the right one and thus for thousands of years the disputes go on and on and on without end. My name reflects my opinion of all supernatural based religions and in particular those that claim to know what a supernatural being desires or has instructed. ACJA
ReplyDeleteYaron "Ron" Reuven has a history of legal problems relating to fraud:

Like the serpent, you spew evil gossip without benefit.
DeleteRabbi Reuven said all his business was kosher. He said he never cheated anybody. How can we trust that your sources are true?
DeleteSee Below Quotes from R' Manis Friedman:
ReplyDeleteFemininity[edit]
Sociologist Lynn Davidman interviewed a number of students studying under Friedman in 1983. She quotes Friedman saying that a woman "violates herself" if she were to refrain from having children and that birth control is a "violent violation of a woman's being". Friedman insisted that the teenage angst experienced by girls stems from the fact that they are already biologically and psychologically ready for marriage but their urges are held back; he believes that girls should optimally get married at the age of fourteen. According to Davidman, Friedman's position on femininity differed entirely from the values of his students.[7]
Controversial comments[edit]
On the Israeli-Arab conflict[edit]
Friedman has claimed that the moral way to fight a war is to "Destroy their holy sites. Kill men, women and children (and cattle)," and that if Israel followed this wisdom from the Bible, there would be "no civilian casualties, no children in the line of fire, no false sense of righteousness, in fact, no war." After receiving criticism Friedman clarified that "any neighbor of the Jewish people should be treated, as the Torah commands us, with respect and compassion." Friedman later clarified that when he was quoting from the Torah he was not advocating to actually kill anyone, rather if Israel would threaten to do this things - it would scare its enemies and prevent war.[8]
On victims of pedophilia[edit]
Friedman was quoted that survivors of child sexual abuse are not as deeply damaged as some claim and should learn to overcome their traumatic experiences. Friedman's comments were received poorly by advocates who saw his statements as trivialising the experiences of the victims.[9][10][11][12] Rabbi Friedman subsequently issued an apology for the offensive remarks.
So what? RMF represents no one but himself & should be taken with a grain (or two) of salt. Don't make him your guru, but don't blacklist him either.
DeleteIf you would compile all of Rashi's "errors" as reported by the Tosfot, I'm sure you'd end up with a larger list than that of R' Manis Friedman.
Friedman is not guilty of apikorsus here. He's guilty of stupidity.
DeleteHave you watched these (shocking) videos???
Deletehttps://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2214180015356161
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUcEs7tLaac
The video has been removed
ReplyDeleteIs it gone? Link isn’t working for me
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm too late, the you tube is blocked!
ReplyDeleteUnless I should be appreciative of that.
Anybody have an active link to it, in case I want to kill 17 minutes of my life?
https://filebin.net/z0pkhzxrjr5k73sz download here
DeleteHi how can I view this video?
Deleteis there a way to see the clip. The youtube link no longer works
ReplyDeleteThe link to the YouTube video is private. Does anyone have a link that works?
ReplyDeleteOops! Can't view the video anymore. It has been set to private!
ReplyDeleteGotcha covered https://filebin.net/z0pkhzxrjr5k73sz download here
Delete@Yid rov sacks, Thanks.
DeleteThey decided to block the video from the general public! Luckily I had downloaded a copy. I re-uploaded it and it can be watched at https://youtu.be/iMJQ51hbJ-M. (This is now an unlisted video, so only people with this link will be able to see it.)
ReplyDeleteThank you, R’ Slifkin, for preserving this lunacy when these cowards tried to hide it.
DeleteThough that does sort of beg the question: if this video reflects their deeply held views, and it’s so important to these guys that those views be publicized, why suddenly make it private when people became aware of it?
I didn’t even realize that Mizrachi fraud was still around/active...
And who the heck is this Yaron Reuven? I’ve never heard of him...
R Slifkin, you should edit your original post with the new link you have. Cant count on everyone reading your comments.
DeleteThank you for doing this. Now I can show my friends and waste 17 minutes of their time!
DeleteWhy would you want people to see it, if it's so bad?
DeleteScience just 'changed' their opinion on the age of the world.
DeleteRabbi Mizrahi and Yaron. Were correct in calling out your distortion of creation.
See link:
https://www.sciencealert.com/researchers-calculate-that-the-moon-might-be-younger-than-we-thought/amp
As soon as you see this kind of 'mistake' in science, you need to start taking an honest look at your blind acceptance of all science as 'fact'. You gotta love when they say "we were 'only' a few billion years off"
Ron, are you suggesting the world is only a few thousand years old?
Delete@Turk Hill, are you suggesting that it's ok to be off by a few billion years? Science now indicates that the moon is no longer billions of years old like they have claimed with 'certainty' for many decades.
Delete@Ron I'm not sure you know the difference between "millions" and "billions". The revised age of the moon (not the rest of the universe btw) is within an error margin of 0.0002% of the original. For your comment to make any sense whatsoever, it would need to have been off by a margin of 99.999983%.
Delete@Ron Are you a creationist? Y/N?
Deletewhat I fail to understand is the following assymetry of the rabbies (so called gatekeepers of Judaism).
ReplyDeletetowards some people they act fast and furious but towards others they seem to act very hesitant and lousy.
for example against Rav Slifkin we had the big guns, pashkevilim, discrediting him and without even meeting him where he can defend himself.
While someone as Mizrachi it took a long time, he got approached several times, there was a meeting and it was a very hesitant letter against him without discrediting him.
there are enough other examples where it took the comunity/rabbies ages (long after the damage was done) to condone malpractise of public people.
while in certain cases it goes very fast. someone an expplanation ?
1- it wasn't even the same group of rabbis.
Delete2- Rav Slifkin is a bigger gun. They had to bring out theirs.
3- they learned from the backlash re Rav Slifkin to go slower.
4- he's too much to the right for them, he's too much to the left for them.
thank you
ReplyDeleteI may be giving myself too much credit, but I bet they took it down because of a certain commentator pointing out that they had embedded Xtian worship rituals and satanic imagery into their video, therefore glorifying idolatry. I bet when they realized what they had done, they were ashamed of it.
ReplyDeleteLove an Xtian worship ritual! (A species out of an Orson Scott Card novel perhaps?) Reminds me of a friend who mentioned to an acquaintance that her child was at St. Josephs school was told that she should refer to it as "Josephs"...
DeleteContacted him. That's not the reason.
DeleteYWPWRS, so what's the reason?
Delete@YWPWRS,
DeleteSo they are ok with putting scenes of a Xtian man bowing down to his yeshu idol and crossing himself in their Torah video? Along with Satanic imagery laced throughout other parts of the video? Why would a rabbi make a video depicting Xtian worship rituals? Help me understand how they think this is acceptable to publish.
Can't see the video but here's your token leftist to agree that Mizrachi devolves further and further into nuttery.
ReplyDeleteR'Dr. Cardozo's lectures were some of the most educational I've ever heard.
I see that all your fans are cheering you on. I guess that's what keeps you writing articles that are completely assur. Oseh masseh zimri umvakesh schar kpinchus.
ReplyDeleteVideo is private. Any way to access it?
ReplyDeleteThe video was deleted. Is there any backup of it? I must witness this lunacy for myself.
ReplyDeleteThey took the video down... Any chance someone has it and can send lol
