A Gift To Antisemites

Raed Majali was born in London, studied at UCL, and is now at the University of Exeter.

He has 42,703 followers on social media.

He hates Jews. He really, really hates Jews. He spreads the most vile antisemitic claims. He posted a "picture worth a thousand pictures," of a lone Islamic warrior facing off against all the evils of the world, controlled by a spider-legged Jewish monster.

And Raed Majali was given the greatest gift, the most powerful way to justify and spread his terrible message.

He has Rabbi Yaron Reuven's video about the Jews of Germany. A video which has been shared by numerous antisemites on YouTube and Facebook. (You can watch it on YouTube at this link.)

In this video, Yaron Reuven explains that Hitler had two good reasons for hating the Jews.

First was that "Berlin was the Sodom and Gomorra of the day... homosexuality, pornography, bestiality, all the garbage of the world... Hitler closed all the bars, all the gay clubs, all the productions - which were all run by Jewish people."

Second, explains Reuven, is that the Jews destroyed the German economy, by charging high interest. (Of course, this isn't actually true; see this article for the real explanation of why the German economy collapsed, and how the Nazis manipulated this against the Jews.) Reuven states: "Hitler wrote that 'the Jews destroyed Russia, and now they are destroying Germany, so I have to destroy them.' It doesn't make it right, but the point is that it's absolutely true history."

A bearded rabbi, lecturing in a synagogue, endorsing all the worst accusations about how Jews destroy their host countries with moral corruption and taking their money.

Majali shared an extract from this video on Facebook, with Arabic subtitles, under the heading, "See what they say about themselves." He is one of only many who have shared this video on Facebook and YouTube. Facebook and YouTube have procedures for removing antisemitic propaganda, but these are difficult to activate - especially when the person spouting the antisemitic propaganda is a rabbi.

In the last month, Majali's video alone has been viewed TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN THOUSAND TIMES.

If you want to get into the mood for Tishah B'Av, you can read some of the hundreds of comments on the video at Majali's Facebook page. They are all in Arabic, but Facebook provides an automatic translation. As one can imagine, they are horrific.

There's nothing that can be done to repair the terrible damage to our nation that Yaron Reuven has wrought. It's too late.

But we have to stop him from causing any more.

Yaron Reuven's YouTube and Facebook videos and accounts must be removed for spreading antisemitic conspiracy theories and inciting hatred and violence. He needs to be ousted from the Rabbinical Alliance of America (of which he proudly declares membership and legitimacy). He needs to be denounced, defrocked and condemned.

Yaron Reuven is a menace to society.

  1. It's worse than the story of the man who comes to a rabbi asking for a tikkun for the Lashon HaRa that he has spread. The rabbi tells him to write what he said on a piece of paper, tear up the paper, and scatter the pieces into a river.

The tikkun involved trying to gather all of the scattered pieces of paper--a Herculean, impossible task.

Now, if Yaron Reuven's videos are removed and he is even put in cherem, the Raed Majalis of the world would say that he's being silenced for revealing the truth, not for spreading untruths.

    6. Chaim X, you believe that in order for people to have correct behavior, we have to be able to threaten them with consequences? Have good table manners, be polite to each other, and don't be a jerk because otherwise the police will get you? You cannot accept simply "If someone is going to take the responsibility of broadcasting to the world, that someone should be a mensch and honest about it"?? What a negative world you live in.

    5. The Rabbi's assumptions have caused huge damage in the hands of one who hates our People. The Jews involved in Weimar were definitely not the majority, and those who were involved were assimilated into the dominant culture. No where in acculturated, Jew Hating Europe have Jews ever "controlled" jack squat. The Rabbi is so ethnocentric he apparently believes Jews had a much greater involvement than they did. He does need to start considering what he has to say, and the impact of his words, as well as his quite ignorant assumptions. Being a Rabbi diesn't make a person holy, or to be worshipped. They are to be respected for upholding and teaching Jewish Law. Not because they know everything, or because they do everything correctly.

  4. Your call to censor Rabbi Reuven proves his point. The biggest lie taught in the Jewish schools is that antisemitism is inherently irrational and has no basis in evidence.

There can be no solution if everyone is forced to deny the problem on pain of deplatforming and censorship.

Nazis hated Jews for being Communists; Communists hated Jews for being capitalist. Jews are not intrinsically Communist or capitalist, yet both the Nazis and the Soviets used their "justifications" for widespread persecution of Jews.

    8. Yehudah P. misses my point. If I got fired from 100 jobs, kicked out of 100 bars, given 100 traffic tickets, etc. and said "it's all their fault" you'd know the explanation was BS.

The lie is to say that Jews getting kicked out of over 100 countries is not in any way the Jews' fault.

Imagine you are a Roman farmer doing your duties and paying your taxes, but notice that many of the local Jews pay no taxes at all. You find out that these Jews spent a lot of time combing through Roman law using whole host of legal technicalities to avoid paying Roman taxes.

The acts of the local Jewish community might be 100% legal, but a Roman would look at such an attempt to game the system as morally wicked. You're abusing the letter of Roman law to avoid pulling your weight.

I've heard many fellow Jews brag about this at the Shabbos table. One guy I know made a career out of combing through the Affordable Care Act and consulting with companies so they can cash out as much as possible while paying as little into the system as possible. Gaming the system. The guy made no contribution to the economy (broken window fallacy), but helped companies exploit it in a parasitic fashion.

Talk to yeshiva students. They are also cooking up schemes to game the system. One yeshiva student spent 10 minutes telling me about a credit card scheme he and his friends thought up. He noticed that if you buy certain items at certain stores, move your points from one credit card to another, do some other complicated stuff, return the clothes, etc. you can end up with getting loads of free points.

Again, this might be perfectly legal, but it's morally abhorrent. The goyim have every right to know that this is going on. And guess what? They do!

      Delete
    9. Wait, so we're to believe all these antisemitic stereotypes as being based in reality because you anecdotally know of a few Jews who have engaged in attempts to game the system that are also attempted by general society? Like the point of antisemitism is that is generalizes the actions of a few Jews as being characteristic of all Jews, when in fact general society is rampant with the exact same sins.

You don't think that clever and non-Jews comb through the law and use a whole host of legal technicalities to avoid paying taxes?? You don't non-Jewish lawyers comb through the Affordable Care Act and consult with companies so they can cash out?? Do you have any evidence that non-Jews with the same intelligence and skills game the system any less than Jews? How many non-Jews do you know who try to pay as much tax as possible? All the non-Jews that I know try to minimize their tax burdens!

In reality, trying to legally avoid taxes and using loopholes is something everybody does, including even less sophisticated people, such as "simple" farmers. Obviously, people who have better finance skills will do a better job of that, whether they are Jews or not. This is not something unique or even more prevalent among Jews. So your comments are pure vicious slander to the highest extent.

    12. True, if 50% of jails are filled with black criminals it's probably not because the cops are racist. On the other hand, to generalize and stereotype the actions of a few would be mistaken and insulting. It is wrong to suggest that Jews were kicked out of every country because they were bankers when the Nazis were the most notorious criminals in the history. Even if you and Reuvin were right about a few "bankers" and "gays", is it reasonable to suggest that every Jew was either queer or a banker? Should innocent children be gassed even if they had no connection to these so-called "bankers?" Not to mention that Germans equally game the system all the time. No, your presupposed innocents of antisemites is morally reprehensible. It's no better than the metoo movement. It's disgusting.

Currently, Jews are banned from six countries in the world. All of them are Arab countries. Palestinians have average IQ of 82. They are openly terrorizing Jews. They are reaping huge benefits because of Jews who have established a very prosperous society in the region. Although only 0.2% of the world’s population, Jews are awarded 24% of the Nobel Prizes. Jews usually tend to have a higher than average intelligence. We seem to have higher IQs than other cultures, save perhaps East Asians. My grandfather used to say that when Spain kicked out the Jews in 1492, Spain never recovered.

And despite all that, you prefer to put our enemies, the Nazis, on a pedestal and consciously suggest that the Nazis were morally superior! Shame on you.

"Drew" is just spouting a recent line of argument that was popularized in neonazi online forums. It's a very stupid talking point that attempts to flip the morality of population expulsions on its head and absolve the perpetrators of their crimes of theft and expulsion, blaming the Jews for the torture and exploitation that was done to them. It erases the documented history of religious and racial hatred that motivated these acts, and in some cases the simple greed and transfer of wealth desired by rulers such as in the Spanish Expulsion, and it attempts to convince the reader that if so many people repeated this same "seemingly" evil act, then it must have been justified somehow.

We don't apply the same criteria to any other abhorrent acts, such as rape, murder, theft, or any other individual crimes. If someone was repeatedly beaten in a domestic violence case, no one would dare suggest the victim deserved it since it happened so many times, whereas if it only happened once or twice, then probably they didn't deserve it. Think about how dumb that "logic" is. But this doesn't stop them from spreading this talking point everywhere ("109 countries" is their Refrain of Morons, which by the way isn't even historically accurate and is purposely inflated by double counting to make it seem more impressive). Drew is either an adherent of this neonazi movement infiltrating our discussions, or he's someone who read their material and was easily swayed by their low-IQ ramblings because of his ignorance.

And lest you think I'm being ethnocentric by denigrating the low IQ of neonazis, they readily boast of our genius Jewish IQs and their contrasting relative dearth of intelligence as part of their grand theories of world history.

But for a low IQ team appealing to low IQ masses, their arguments go far, especially when people don't think them through very deeply or haven't studied history outside of these "lessons" they are receiving in these websites and social media groups.

Cool Roman farmer story bro. So realistic.

    17. It's good to ask yourself "if I was wrong about such and such an issue, would I ever be able to figure it out?" If you dismiss any possible evidence to the contrary as false, and any source that draws conclusions contrary to your beliefs, then you won't.

Think of the Haredi who dismiss Rabbi Slifkin because they are so dogmatically committed to creationism, Daas Torah, etc. that they won't accept any argument to the contrary and will dismiss any source that says otherwise as unreliable.

You say that I genralize from knowing a few Jews. I am a born Jew and was a member of a frum community for about 5 years. To think that European goyim game the system to the extent that Jews do is as ignorant as thinking white Americans commit murder at the same rate that black Americans do.

The cause for gaming the system is in Talmudic Law, and how it differs from English Common Law and Roman Civil Law. The latter can legislate if the current law imposes too much of a burden.

Talmudic Law on the other hand has a case where a woman had a hand which was allergic to water. How could she use the mikveh? Common Law can say "you have to fully immerse or it doesn't count" and let the ruling body legislate an exemption or modify the law. Talmudic Law requires finding some contrived set of precedents to make a glove out of fish skin so that it protects her hand from the water but legally counts as her own skin, so she can legally immerse without getting her hand wet.

That kind of strained reasoning is fine for religious law, but don't think the goyim are going to think that's ok when you apply that reasoning to secular law. They can and will get angry and retaliate.

One rabbi mentioned in his Daf Yomi shiur about one lobbyist who scattered random punctuation in the bills that he wrote, so that when they went to court, he could use the punctuation to force interpretations that he wanted. Don't think that the goyim are not going to notice this.

Calling people names is not an argument. Calling for censorship is not an argument, but you'd best believe that it will be seen as evidence that the accusations are accurate. If Rabbi Reuven is wrong, it would be nice to see a public debate on these issues. Show the public that his arguments don't hold water.

Rabbi Slifkin has done a good job knocking down popular kiruv arguments, and I have no doubt he'd be quite the formidable opponent for the likes of Rabbi Reuven and Rabbi Mizrachi.

    18. Drew, again with the ridiculously ignorant comments. OF COURSE European non-Jews game the system, or at least attempt to game the system to the same extent as Jews. Whether they are successful or not depends on their legal and financial savviness. I know this because I work with many upper class, financially savvy non-Jews, and I observe that they are no different than us in that respect. Your silly stories from some random daf yomi shiur notwithstanding

And your infantile understanding of Talmudic law is laughable, even for somebody who only spent 5 years in the frum community. But even more ignorant is your assertion that secular law doesn't have strained reasoning. Clearly you have never read a Supreme Court decision, or even took a civics class.

However, the Times of Israel, for example, is quoted 1,780 times (google site:https://www.stormfront.org timesofisrael). Being quoted by people with reprehensible views is not a great metric of reprehensibility. Shmaryahu Rosenberg's old Failed Messiah website was a favourite of the old Daily Stormer, and gets 59 hits on Storm Front.

However I don't doubt for a moment that Rabbi Reuven is a reprehensible guy.

There is obviously a burgeoning market for strong man populists promising simplistic, easy solutions. We live in 2020, and people are scared. Subtlety, nuance, and equivocation in the face of uncertainty are so 2005. For example - "people who don't wear facemasks are murderers!" and "facemasks poison people!" are not as far apart ideologically as you might think.

I don't think head on collision is the right answer. There is a role for lawfare, and I think you should consider a libel action.

I think the right answer to the wider question lies largely with more responsibility from internet companies who normalise and platform cranks. I am sceptical about the benefits of a better education. I think the most important thing we can all do is engage in level-toned, civic, and kind discourse, so that the shrill extremism of zealots are innately off-putting to an ear and mind attuned to better.

  12. No one will probably see this comment as its already down the page but here I go. The problem with R Reuvens video is not that whether its trueful or not but rather if its historically accurate. It may be true that Hitler shut down gay bars run by Jews and that Jews destroyed the economy cause of interest. However, Hitlers war against the Jews had nothing to do with those things. This is why R Reuven video shows his absolute ignorance of history. Hitler hated the Jews because of what Judaism represented.
Here is translated quote from Hitler that is not in Mein Kampf but from an article Hitler Speaks:
"The Ten Commandments have lost their validity. Conscience is a Jewish invention. It is a blemish, like circumcision."

Wilhelm Marr sums it up in his book "The Victory of Judaism over Germandom"

"There is no stopping them [the Jews]. Are there no clear signs that the twilight of the Jews is setting in? No. Jewry’s control of society and politics as well as its domination of religious and ecclesiastical thought is still in the prime of its development. Yes, through the Jewish nation Germany will become a world power, a western new Palestine. And this will happen not through violent revolution but through the compliance of the people. We should not reproach the Jewish nation. It fought against the western world for 1,800 years and finally conquered it. We were vanquished. The Jews were late in their assault on Germany but once started there was no stopping them.

"I am marshalling my last remaining strength in order to die peacefully as one who will not surrender and who will not ask for forgiveness. The historical fact that Israel became the leading social political superpower in the 19th century lies before us. We have amongst us a flexible, tenacious, intelligent foreign tribe that knows how to bring abstract reality into play in many different ways.

Not individual Jews but the Jewish spirit and Jewish consciousness have overpowered the world. All this is the consequence of a cultural history so unique in its way, so grand that every day polemic can achieve nothing against it. With the entire force of its armies the proud Roman Empire did not achieve that which Semitism has achieved in the West and particularly in Germany."

Hitlers war against the Jews was a war against Judeo-Christian values rooted in Judaism. Its a shame R. Reuven falls prey to Nazi propaganda and as a result focuses on the wrong things causing irrevocable harm.

    2. Yes, Hitler was a pagan who despised Judeo-Christian values more than anything. He hated what religion stood for. He hated the loving-kindness of Abraham, and he would use anything to convince the general public that Jews were public enemy No. 1. Whether it be bankers, gays, communist, capitalist, insurrectionist, or whatever. The lie did not matter. What mattered was that they were the enemy. Nothing more.

Interestingly, the Italian fascists weren't very antisemitic. Mussolini's right-hand-man, Ettore Ovazza, was Jewish. But that didn't stop Hitler from sending Gestapo and the SS to intercept and murder him. Goes to show that Hitler didn't care who you were. You could be a fascist, it did not matter. No, I don't think Hitler was simply angry at bankers as Reuven suggests. Hitler was all for Social Darwinism—the “survival of the fittest." No, he hated Judaism's stance on compassion, forgiveness, and loving-kindness.

PS Here is why I agree with RNS that Reuven is "a menace to society." He is placing the Nazis on a pedestal when he says that Jews were evil bankers and gays, deserving of punishment. By saying this he is unconsciously suggesting that the Nazis were superior!

      Delete
    3. Truthful and historically accurate are synonyms.

You oversimplify the story. Hitler latched onto many sorts of arguments and "reasons" for why the Jewish race should be destroyed. You may wish to believe a certain angle was his "true motivation" or primary motivation, but he stated a lot of them.

However, there is something called PRETEXT. It's the same thing today's white nationalist neonazis use. Phony supposed "reasons" to carry out their desired agenda, but these "reasons" are built on dishonest premises or are flat out lies. Reuven, in his ignorance of history and his laziness to bother substantiating claims, accepts the dishonest pretexts wholecloth and proclaims them historically accurate and truthful.

If you find it odd that Hitler y"s at once blamed Jews for "filth" in society while also being responsible for an imposed moral conscience that Germans ought to reject and erase, well, see Yehuda P's comment above re: communists and capitalists. Hatred and the expression of a desire to destroy a group of people based on it, since it is irrational, tends to be based on irrational and inconsistent arguments that are used to convince others. The point for demagogues is the convincing, not the historicity or expression of the rationale for their feelings.

They completely ignore all non-Jewish criminality, evil behaviors, participation, leadership, and support of revolutionary causes and movements. And they frame Jewish people for ALL of it, ***despite the fact that the non-Jewish adherents to all the filth and leftist movements far outnumber the Jewish adherents.***

Of course, collective punishment is reserved only for one group of people, but never their own. It's the same ridiculous story of scapegoating to this day.

Yehudah, take the 4chan garbage somewhere else.

  16. Reuven and Mizrachi are the very last scum, the mob that accumulates everywhere.
I don't understand how one can get upset about such primitive, deeply uneducated people. It sometimes seems to me that there really is an education leak in Israel, because where else does this excitement about people with such a Stone Age consciousness come from?
The time in my country, in Austria, from the 1880s onwards is now so well documented, the rise of German nationalism with all its parade of "visionaries" Georg Heinrich Ritter von Schönerer, Guido von List and Hitler himself (all Austrians, as well as Theodor Herzl) that all these primitive statements by the two of them are simply ridiculous and nothing else.
The mob will always fall for demagogues, hate preachers, fascists or religious fanatics because of the low level of education. Worldwide.
The only antidote is education, education and education. And this again needs a state which makes this possible with its social policy. Not for an elite but for the broad masses. Education is the vaccination against hair-raising lies, hate speech and brainwashing.
